Words by Nicola Johnston

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is a British Comedy with a serious under tone.

The film follows a group of retirees who begin the film as strangers and for their own individual reasons are enticed to travel to India to the retirement hotel (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel) which offers an idyllic setting for relaxation and happiness.

The strangers are quickly brought together, the hotel is not as glossy as advertised and is full of hidden charms and surprises. The characters all face different scenarios which force them to look deep within themselves and ask the big life questions, they each in turn have to face up to their pasts, their mistakes and in time have to be brave and let go to sore free learn to be happy and content in who they really are and what its is that truly makes them happy. A journey of self discover is what is in store.

The film not only offers up a steller cast and plenty laugh out loud moments but also makes us question how we as a society treat and talk to our elders. It looks at the human spirit and the kindness that someone can offer another, it deals with bravery, friendship, forgiveness, kindness and love.

A wonderful film asking a big question who and what are you and what makes you truly happy?
