It’s director, Tony Richardson was voted by the BFI as one of the greatest British filmmakers of the Twentieth Century. Richardson’s illustrious body of work includes the ground-breaking and genre defining titles: Look Back in Anger; Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner; A Taste of Honey and The Entertainer starring Laurence Olivier in one of his most powerful performances. TOM JONES is an adaptation of Henry Fielding's classic novel and is a rousing, bawdy comedy about a young man's ribald adventures in 18th-century England, Albert Finney is splendidly hilarious in the title role of a charming womanizer. An international hit, the film was written by acclaimed playwright, John Osborne and noted for its unusual comic style often breaking the forth wall to include the audience. For the 1989 reissue/restoration, the director trimmed approx. 7 minutes from the original.
